What We Do

Shelter Associates carries out its mission through various projects across four main themes. We aim to provide as much documentation about our projects as possible. Under each heading, you will find a list of projects and photos, videos, and documents for each project.

Housing the Urban Poor

We provide architectural design services to informal communities and deliver appropriate new housing. We believe in participation, consultation and transparency throughout the rehousing process.

Health, Hygiene & Sanitation

We help families gain access to basic sanitation by constructing toilets in informal communities. We also work with NGOs and local authorities to promote health and hygiene in slums.

Education, Training & Livelihood

We conduct workshops to teach environmental responsibility to children. We run income generation projects and train poor women with the skills they need to earn a living.

Mapping & Research

We facilitate holistic citywide planning by using GIS technology and satellite imagery to collect detailed spatial information about informal settlements. We conduct in-depth primary research and analysis which influences government planning policy.
