RCC meeting Kathmandu, Nepal
City Development Through Participation: An article written by Mr. Chintamani Sahasrabudhe on The South Asia Media and Governance Network (MAGNET): 2nd Regional Coordinative Committee (RCC) Meeting held at Kathmandu, Nepal between July 16 and 18 2002.
The Sangli Forum was represented by Mr.G. Ghate (Deputy Municipal Commissioner, Sangli), Mr. Ashok Mane, Councilor, Mr. C.Sahasrabudhe from Sakal, Dr. Nirmala Pandit, the Local Action Researcher, Pune, Mr. Santosh Shenai, Sakal Pune, and Mrs. Pratima Joshi Shelter Associates , Pune. Mr. Ramanath Jha from the UMPSA programme was a keynote speaker.
The other participants were from Dehiwala/ Mt. Lavinia, Sri Lanka and Kathmandu 2020, Nepal.
The emphasis of the conference was to see how effectively the Media and the Civil Societies could come together to create good governance mechanisms in order to ensure better service delivery systems for the urban poor. All the projects had been on for a while. There was definite material for research here. Also, emphasis was being laid on all the partners being much more committed to the process.
