Inauguration of toilet blocks in Sangliwadi and Tasgaon today:
According to the deputy commissioner's Mr. G. Ghate and P.D. Kamble- these toilet projects are the outcome of financial support provided by the Institute on Governance and participation of the NGO Shelter Associates and Baandhani in the slums of Sangliwadi on Joshi plot and Tasgaon Ves. The MLA Madan Patil will inaugurate the blocks. Dr. Nirmala Pandit and Pratima Joshi of Shelter Associates and V.R. Joglekar of Shivsadan attended the press conference.

The inauturation of Tasgaon Ves would be at 11.am. followed by an elaborate programme at Sangliwadi at 11.30 a.m. The guest of honor would be the Mayor Mr. Vijay Dhulubulu, and the chief guest would be the Municipal Commissioner Mr. Madhav Sangle, the Deputy Mayor Mr. Kiran Jagdale, Mr. Sanjay Bajaj etc.

This was a unique joint effort by the local govt. in partnership with the Local Media and a NGO. A forum was established in Sangli through the efforts of the Canadian organization IOG that had provided seed funding which projects. The steering committee that was chaired by the Municipal Commissioner included members of the media, standing committee and the NGO.

The toilets will be on a pay and use model and maintained by the communities who will appoint a caretaker.
