Dattawadi, Pune (1996 - 1998)
In May 1996, during the first rains of the monsoon, the houses of a slum known as Rajendra Nagar were demolished by the city administration. In September 1998, just over two years later, all the families moved into new homes which they themselves helped to construct.
Shelter Associates has documented the construction of the project in a five page flyer called "Moving Mountains" and in 2012, 13 years since the community first occupied their new homes, carried out a study to ascertain how their new environment had impacted their lives. The study was uploaded as blog called "13 years after completion".
