Children's Workshops

Shelter Associates has been running a series of workshops for children in the slums of Sangli and Miraj since 2009.  These workshops are targeted at children between 10 - 12 years of age from different slums who will soon be living together due to the relocations associated with the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Program (IHSDP).

The intention of the workshop series is to increase the children's social responsibility, improve their awareness of environmental issues, to introduce them to their future neighbours and to highlight their role as caretakers of their newly built environment, which is being provided to them through the IHSDP.  The workshops take place in an informal learning atmosphere away from the children's homes and cover the following themes: community awareness, water, sanitation & waste management, and health & nutrition.
